Weekend Getaways: Gurney’s Montauk

The Montauk season is very nearly upon us, and there is no better staple than Gurney’s Montauk Seawater Spa. If you don’t know what Gurney’s is, it’s a luxury beachfront resort located on the very tip of Long Island in Montauk. It offers beautiful views of the beach and ocean and has an amazing seawater spa on-site.

I had a recent stay at Gurney’s (pre-season) and I enjoyed every minute of it. The staff are extremely friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. The resort has 158 rooms/suites to choose from. I chose the Deluxe Oceanfront room with a private terrace that has beautiful views of the ocean. Phone service is spotty (it is Montauk after all) however there is wifi throughout the resort so you aren’t completely off the grid.

The food selection is great at Gurney’s. I had an early afternoon bite at The Firepit, their outdoor lounge with aptly named fire pits. For dinner I went to Scarpetta Beach, their on-site restaurant. It’s an Italian restuarant with a delicious selection of pasta and seafood. Breakfast was a room-service affair but you can also head down (or up, depending on where you are in the resort) to Tillie’s, for breakfast as well as lunch selections.

The Seawater Spa was the highlight of my stay. It was recently renovated in partnership with Alonso Balaguer Designs who also created AIRE Ancient Baths. The indoor pool area is absolutely gorgeous and relaxing with large bay windows. It is open to guests, members, and those receiving treatments 60 minutes or longer. For access to the bathhouse, you need to purchase a treatment or the resort also offers a complimentary 90 minutes usage of the bathhouse to resort guests, but you have to prebook that experience. The bathhouse has treatment rooms, thermal pools, a dry sauna and eucalyptus steam rooms. The treatments offered are massages, facials, and body treatments which start around $200. I booked the Swedish Flow Massage and my massage therapist was amazing! I fell asleep and woke up feeling relaxed and rejuvenated.

I highly recommend Gurney’s Montauk if you’re looking for a relaxing few days away from the city. Make sure to book early during this summer season because it is the high season and rooms tend to sell out quickly.
